TIRUNELVELI: A halwa store owner was charged for using the trademark “Iruttukadai” on the packaging of his goods. According to reliable sources, H Kavitha, a stakeholder in Krishnasingh Sweet Stall, and her family received trademark protection for the word “iruttukadai” in 2007. But since 2008, Syed Mohideen, who owns a store in the city called Raja Sweets, has used the word “iruttukadai” on the covers of his halwa packets.
“In 2011, the court forbade Mohideen from using the Trademark term “iruttukadai” after the legitimate owners of the brand filed a complaint against him in the lower court.
Mohideen contested the decision in the HC and SC, which, in 2013 and 2014, respectively, disregarded the arguments.
On December 20, Kavitha filed a complaint against him because he was still peddling packages under the name “iruttukadai,” according to the sources. But since 2008, Syed Mohideen, who owns a store in the city called Raja Sweets, has used the word “iruttukadai” on the covers of his halwa packets.
