(Date of Birth: 27-08-1958, Age: 63). Her mother and father were both Indians then. She got married to the Indian national Krishnaraj (Age 76). She has studied only up to SSLC and has been a housewife all her life. Unbeknownst to her, her father had applied for and acquired French Nationality for her mother. Bremavady acquired her French nationality through her mother in 1996.French citizenship
However, She did not fully understand the documents in French. She did not realize that she has French citizenship. Then, she applied for an Indian passport in 2010 to visit her children abroad. She traveled on the Indian passport a few times. And the last time she traveled using the Indian passport was back in 2016. Since then she has come to know through her children that she does have a French Nationality and so she must surrender her Indian passport and apply for a French passport instead and get an OCI card. After checking with the FRRO office, and on their advice, she went on to get a French passport. The very next day, she applied to surrender her Indian passport in the Passport office. However, when doing so, the passport officer mentioned that she should not have got the Indian passport in the first place (back in 2010). She got the Indian passport by suppressing the fact that she had acquired French citizenship. The passport office had asked the Police Commissioner's office to investigate the matter and we were told at that point we will get the surrender certificate after the Police investigation.FIR on Section 12 (1A) (a) and Section 12 (1) (b) of the Passport Act
The Police commissioner’s office has since called her for inquiry and has registered an FIR on Section 12 (1A) (a) and Section 12 (1) (b) of the Passport Act.
