Hope you deal with medical negligence cases. My mother passed away last April 23, 2020 in Chennai in a private hospital. In my opinion, she passed away out of medical negligence.
  • She was a heart patient. But she passed away due to heart and kidney failure.
  • She went into a coma couple of weeks before her departure,
  • The demise was cruel with multiple organ failure.
  • The fact that she went into coma or the brain collapsed completely was not mentioned in the medical report.
  • She had no kidney problem.
  • She had no problem in the brain.

Brief description of the Medical negligence case.

My mother was admitted in the hospital on Friday April 3, 2020 and passed away on April 23, 2020. She was 84 years old. Meanwhile, She was admitted in the ICU on Friday under very poor health and breathing difficulty. She was just put under oxygen. She had ejection fraction 20% (50% is normal). At this ejection fraction, the heart can collapse at any time.[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="2122"]Best 10 Rated Lawyers for Medical negligence case in a Private Hospital in Chennai India Best 10 Rated Lawyers for Medical negligence case in a Private Hospital in Chennai India[/caption]They did not even provide her Ventilator, artificial respiration support for more than six days until the following Thursday, April 9, 2020) midnight when my sister received a call asking her to go the hospital. When she went there around midnight, they asked her to sign a paper to put the patient on a Ventilator. By that time, both the kidneys have failed. She was alright before being admitted. She even wished my sister on Sunday, April 5, 2020 cheerfully. I think she lost consciousness completely on Tuesday April 7, 2020 and never recovered. They did not even bother to call a neurologist or psychiatrist. I told my sister to arrange for these specialists.

Lethargic

She has been a dementia patient for about 6 years now. Then, my sister moved her out of ICU as there was no progress with her health and moved her to an independent room so that she could be with my mother for a few hours only. The hospital again asked her to sign some paper for this move. Again, she was not on Ventilator though her heart condition was just the same as when she was admitted. This is negligence. Neurologist never explained why she was unconscious may be because of her heart which had no capacity to pump oxygenated blood to the kidneys and the brain. The kidneys were slowly started functioning better because they called a kidney specialist after sometime after being admitted, lethargic. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance on April 3, 2020.

Cardiologist for consultation

On February 19, 2020, we took my mother to her Cardiologist for consultation. Her ejection fraction was around 40% much less than normal. The Dr simply prescribed some medicines and sent us home. In fact, at 40% a patient can collapse. The Dr must have recommended her to be admitted in the hospital for oxygen or Ventilator treatment or should have prescribed oxygen cylinder at home. Now there are so many facilities at home like non invasive ventilators, oxygen cylinders. The Doctor never cared to prescribe as oxygen cylinders are supplied on prescription. I asked other Drs and nobody helped as her Cardiologist must prescribe. The attitude of the Cardiologist was when the patient needs oxygen, she can go to the hospital. Because of her right hip fracture we used to carry her from the second floor. It was not easy to move her.

never consulted a psychiatrist.

On January 31, 2020, she was admitted in the same hospital as her heart was not normal. But otherwise she went walking to the hospital and climbed down the stairs that day. She went cheerfully. In fact, She had some water or fluid in her lungs. She was a dementia patient and she panicked being left alone in hospitals and scared of injections. They took her to ICU against our wishes to take out fluid from her lungs. We do not know what they did. She was in the ICU for about two hours as she could not bear the pain. She was in panic. Treating dementia patient like this cruel. She was brought back to her room where my sister was waiting.

ICU being a dementia patient

The next day night she became totally unresponsive, stopped talking, started to run from the hospital room, did not recognise my sister and my father. She wanted to run from there. She was brought home after two more days on February 4, 2020. Moreover, She remained like that in that state. She did not recognise my sister and father. Something happened to her at the ICU being a dementia patient. In five days, she slowly started talking and remembering things. May be they administered some antibiotic that interfered with her psychiatric medicine. They never explained to us or told us sorry. I visited her around mid February 2020 out of panic. She did not recognise. When we went to the Cardiologist on February 19, 2020, the Cardiologist assured us that what happened in the hospital during the last hospitalisation will never happen again. They never consulted a psychiatrist.

oxygen cylinder at home

When my mother left the hospital on February 4, 2020, her heart was not normal, that is, her ejection fraction was about 40 % in the echocardiogram result. Again she was not prescribed oxygen cylinder at home.So because of her weak heart, and lack of oxygenated blood to the other parts of the body, she developed more complications and organ or kidney failure. Her CT scan of the brain taken in the hospital during April was normal.Depriving oxygen or non availability of oxygen to a patient is a medical negligence. She was not prescribed any medical device to take care of her heart. On the other hand, her psychiatrist who prescribed olanzapine for dementia more than five years ago, we learnt that it was not for treating dementia and it should not be prescribed to old patients. This medicine has the risk of heart attacks as side effects. This medicine is banned in the USA. I told this to her psychiatrist. He said it was okay as it was not banned in the UK. The psychiatrist knew that my mother was a heart patient. Please help us in Medical negligence case in a Private Hospital
