TN police probe baby-selling racket in Tiruchy district

The TN police have already detained four suspects and an advocate involved in the investigation.

In August, the Tamil Nadu Police initiated an investigation into a baby-selling racket. The Madras High Court intervened in a case related to the sale of infants in the Tiruchy district.

So far, the police have apprehended four individuals and an advocate involved in the case. The mother of the child is currently in the custody of the TN police district.

The district police superintendent informed the media that they are launching an investigation to determine if the three-month-old baby was part of a larger baby-selling ring within both the state and the district and, importantly, whether the child was still alive.

The district police provided information to the news agency, expressing concern that the baby had changed hands several times, casting doubt on the child’s well-being and raising suspicions of organized crime involvement.

According to the police, Janaki, a 32-year-old woman who filed the complaint, disclosed that she gave birth to a baby from an illicit relationship. She further stated that her family was unwilling to care for the child. In her complaint, Janaki alleged that she handed the child over to the advocate’s family. However, when she requested the child’s return, the advocate and his family members refused to comply.

The advocate sought anticipatory bail against the TN Police arrest

Tiruchy District Superintendent of Police Sujith Kumar informed the media that the TN police opened a case in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act against the advocate who sought anticipatory bail. But, the advocate presented contradictory evidence in court, claiming that police pressured her to file the case and that her baby was hers. Police on further investigation were able to arrest Advocate Prabhu, his wife and a driver of the car Akash and a third person. Then and were taken into the custody of the judicial system. An investigation is underway to determine what is the nature of this singular incident or if an interstate racket involvement in the sale of infants.

He must be interrogated in the custody of police to determine if there were more people involved in the investigation and if it involved an illegal interstate scheme. He further said the special police team was looking into the matter and meeting with locals to determine if there was a similar case before.
